Is it just me or does there seem to be a marked increase in the amount of aeroplane noise over the villlage? I don't mind this too much during the day, but being woken up by low flying planes in the small hours of the morning is not a great way to start the day.

I thought there were restrictions on the times that planes could fly, or is this no longer the case now that the airport has been sold off ?

Perhaps it's time to upgrade the double glasing

I have just been to London, the aeroplane noise was unbelievable. We had to watch tv with subtitles, the planes started coming into land at 5am. They casted a shadow over the house so much I thought the electric kept going off. They were flying in @1000 feet. Never again would a plane flying over to Leeds/Bradford bother me!!!!

I think you're right - there is an increase.

The Parish Council has asked the airport for representation on their 'consultative committee' however, the airport have declined the request.

I'm pursuing this at the moment - Menston does at least have representation and our interests are similar - namely ensuring that aircraft stick to their defined flight paths.

Matt, many thanks for taking this up. Over the years I have become convinced that the aircraft now fly over the village on approach where as in the past they came round the village on the other side of the river.

The newer aircraft are certainly quieter than they were but if the air craft are taking short cuts over the village then it should be stopped. Although as I type that, it occurs to me that air traffic control must be far stricter this close to the air port so could it be that the flight path has been altered?

Some are taking even longer short cuts over the valley. The west side of Ilkley for one. Noise is noise. Irrespective of whether they have quiet engines. I do believe the present leader of Ilkley Parish Council warned of a noise increase last year and folk said he was on the wrong line. Seems the chap was right all along.
