Hi all,

There is currently an error generated when posting messages on the forum. The message IS still posted, but it comes up with an error message rather than the new post.

I am working on resolving this; in the meantime, please continue to use the forum as normal and simply return the the forum to view your post.

Thanks

Matt

PS. Please let me know of any other errors!

Hi Matt,

In my last post re Pavement Repairs I would have included photographs but couldn't find how to upload them, or won't the forum allow this.

I've just had an email notification but when I clicked the link I got a message to say that the link was broken. When I checked the forum there had been no post in that particular thread.

Yes, it will. Below the post you shoudl have an 'upload files' option - near the 'polls' option - you can still upload files now, just by editing the post.

This is caused by testing - the link is to the test server and for that reason it will not work. It's not meant to send out live emails from the test server, but for some reason it sometimes does. I've pointed the issue out to my developer.

Matt, there are several broken images on the forum at the moment. The main one in the top left hand corner and the new posts image on the main page.

Clicking on the link in email notifications produces the following error message:

Not able to open ./cache/data_global.php

H TTP before a URL also causes an error, same as it did a few months back.

Hi all,

My developer is investigating the bugs - please note though, it costs a good bit to keep the forum going and fix things. If they aren't essential (like the image links) they may not ben fixed in a hurry!

Matt, in an attempt to help Appropriate Bridge to add a link to his signature, it appears that adding H T T P into the URL causes the same server error as it did a while ago in forum posts, but I notice that somehow you have managed to add a link in your Signature. How did you do it? Thanks!

No idea! I'll add it to the list of things to look in to.

Matt, it seems that new members are unable to sign up. You may wish to add that to the list.

Oh, and it may be at my end, but I don’t tend to get automatically logged on anymore. I have to enter my credentials each visit which is a new development.

It looks to me like some one who doesn’t know what they are doing has been fiddling with various settings.

I also had to reset my password as it would not recognise it, despite windows saving it

There have been no changes to the database and not sure why these problems are occuring. Will try to resolve them when I can, but qould be great to find someone who could help.

Matt,

What version of phpBB are you running here? I can’t promise to be able to help, but I am installing the latest version, 3.0.5 on a server to have a play, and so far, so good. It occurs to me that the best way to go forward would be to install the latest version and then run a convert on the old forum after backing it up.

The install seems fairly straight forward, but have you got the file permissions set up right?

CHMOD 757 for /cache , /files , /store and /images/avatars
CHMOD 644 for config.php

I don’t know which SQL Dbase you are running, but if its MYSQL you may want to try a repair on that too, but once again, make sure you have a decent backup and are sure you can go back if it all goes wrong.

If you want to give me access as a full board Admin along with an FTP account to the server I can have a look. If you want to have a chat, either via PM or face to face I would be happy to do so.

Hi Wharfedale. Thanks for the offer. It is 3.0.5 (some of the issue seems to go back to the upgrade some time ago, some to the original install, and others make on sense to me at all!). I've done some basic houskeeping on it today, and tried changing the permissions (which were not as you suggest they should be, though changing them has not solved the problem).

I think it would be good to have a chat if you can spare the time... I have another offer of help as well so perhaps the 3 of us could get together.

Before I grant FTP access etc. we need to be sure everything is properly backed up and we know what we are trying to do, why, and how!

I do wonder whether I should still consider switiching to different software as per my post some months ago. A clean import of users and posts into new software should remove the endless stream of bugs I seem to get with phpbb.

The date issue is very odd - it is a new problem, seems intermittent, and the dates show correctly in the admin interface. There have been no changes to codebase, database, or operating enviroment - it makes no sense. This is the problem - I cant find the source of these issues.

Hi Matt.

The time problem is likely to be something to do with daylight savings I would imagine.

I’ll PM you…
