Cricket Ground at Highroyds

I took my grandchildren to watch Crom.Park play 2 weeks ago and was appalled at the state of the whole area around the pitch! Mud and huge tracks made by heavy vehicles which made it unpleasant to walk around. Also a huge tree has fallen and is still laying outside the club house. Also trying to park is a nightmare as the barrier is down and the residents complain at us parking beside their homes.
Considering the upheaval we who live in Menston have had to put up with on our roads, and the total lack of amenities included in the build on Highroyds, one would have thought making the cricket pitch look attractive would maybe help sell the desirable homes (sic)

Come on all you Menstonians, what do you think of the conditions at High Royds Cricket Ground.

I think a lot of the Menston people are not aware that the forum is back in circulation, the only way to get them back is by word of mouth, I only new it was back when it was mentioned on another forum.
The administrator of the forum I believe accidently deleted the members list from the old forum & therefore could not advise all the old members that it was once again active.

I did in fact have the members list, which is backed up every few months (it was a manual process on the old forum, involving copying out the details into a text file!). All members should have been notified, but the bounce rate is about 15%, and very recent members won't have been on the list.
Councillors also write to a number of streets each month to find out what issues people have, and the forum is mentioned on these letters.
I did ask Menston Community Association to link to it from their web site, but they did not feel able to do so.
There is a link from burley-in-wharfedale.org, and I also promote it through google adwords, but that is expensive so it's capped at a pound a day.
Any other suggestions as to how the forum can be promoted will be gratefully received!

I'm updating my blogs and will put a link through from each eventually.
Are you linked with Addingham and Skipton by the way?

Out of interest, did the cricket club house ever get built?
Also, I was reading a letter in the Ilkley Gusset about the High Royds development -
http://www.ilkleygaz...nners_in_Leeds/
" .... I feel it is only proper to point out to him that it wasn’t Bradord Council which approved and agreed to the 700 new homes being developed at High Royds, .... planners at Leeds Town Hall"
Does this mean that High Royds is actually in Leeds District for planning, health provision etc, and not part of Menston?
Who do the residents of this development pay their council tax to - Leeds Council?

As of January no new club house had been built, the site is pretty poorly run, I mean after all these years they've still not put the top layer on our roads yet!

Are there areas that still need to be worked?

That usually means that they've yet to completely finish the development - they still need the rough roads to run their heavy equipment / supplies up & down.

Yes there are areas still been worked on, site traffic uses the other entrance (near BP/Harry Ramsdens), normally though now.

It was my understanding that the developers were going to put in a primary school & a health centre - what happened to them? Are they still to be built?

The council tax situation comes about because High Royds wasn't a part of Menston as I understand it. It had a Guiseley address and as such was part of Leeds. When I was growing up almost everybody in Bradford thought it was in Menston and the word was used to imply mental illness. If someone was being accused of being 'Mad' they would be referred to as coming from Menston or told that they should be in Menston. I worked there as a volunteer ward porter for some years and remember that it had a Guiseley post code.
I remember a really silly situation when there was a car accident at the 'back gate'. I had to call 999 and they called back to ask if it was the back or front
gate. Apparently if it was the front the cops would come from Leeds (Horsforth!) and if the back they would have had to come from Keighley!
