Wharfedale Observer Thursday 4th March 2010 - Across The Years
1885
On Sunday morning last the Guiseley branch of the Yorkshire Association of Change Ringers rung a peal of New London, this being the first peal of the kind ever rung on the bells. Before the evening service, three twelve-scores of Violet, Oxford and Kent treble Bob were rung."

I'm intrigued by the names "New London" & "three twelve-scores of Violet, Oxford and Kent treble Bob were rung".

The Yorkshire Association of Change Ringers (formed 1875) still exists http://www.yacr.org.uk/
But I can't find anything on their site that tells me anything about the origin of the names or what they might sound like.
Anybody know?

If you start with Howarth on the trail of changes some sense might appear http://www.haworth-v...rch_belfrey.asp

I'll try and track down more for you.

Here we go.

This crew will have all the answers - The Central Council for Church Bell Ringers.
