Are there any local MOT stations which also MOT motorbikes - I usually go to one in Bradford. But thought if there is local one - I could take my trade to that instead..

Any bikers on here use a local garage or do you know any bikers that do??

I use the one on the way in to Otley, before you get to Toymaster.

Auto Serv Dawsons Yard, Westgate, Otley, LS21 3AU - Tel: 01943 463219

Top bloke. The garage next to the Land Rover place now does bike MOTs but I haven't tried him.

ooh didn't realise the one in Otley did bikes, cheers..

Saw the one in the village, but not used them and don't know anyone (yet) who has. Have been put off from going there though when we took our car there to get something done on it - we got quoted £500 which included a £100 part to get fit and 2 full days work.. suppose thats fair enough... My partner had a day off work so did it himself in one day (6-7 hours) - and that included going to collect the part! (and dinner/tea breaks) :)

Must say I prefer to go on recommendations though.

Have taken my car to Guzdecks for a number of years and not had problem. Was going to take my bike there when due MOT in December. If you take to Otley let me know how you get on as I too would rather take local if possible (Especially in December!)

Will do - I normally use a place in Bfd as they are bikers themselves so are quite 'fair' with the MOT's. Might try get in tomorrow afternoon as MOT runs out very soon! where do you normally go?

A place in Leeds though it's through Colin Appleyards so don't know it directly (they MOT'd it free so long as I got my bike serviced with them). They were OK (not too fussy when it came to exhaust noise ;) ) but new bike is a triumph so need to try somewhere else.

HIghly recommend that place in Otley!!

Just been today for its MOT, which it passed (phew) thought it would but its still a nerve racking wait till they give the all clear!

When I was there he asked if my wrists ached on journeys. Said they do a bit, but not had the bike long and its more lay down style than my last one so put it down to that. (and I have a dodgy tendon in my wrist/arm which im sorting) Anyway he suggested just moving the brake and clutch levers down a touch as they were not quite at the right angle for the wrists to be straight.

Thanked him for that info and went to go pay for the MOT.. meanwhile he altered them there and then for me and told me to try them. Perfect!!

So Yes I would recommend going there for the MOT as they are very helpful and don't mind doing extra little bits to help out. Let one guy change his rear indicator bulb on the spot and gave him screwdriver etc so it would pass the mot.

Thanks muchly for the heads up on the garage! :)

Sounds just the ticket!

Thanks for heads up. I'll be going there too in December.

Interesting what they said about angle of leavers. Never thought that could affect wrists. Yoo live and learn.

Yeah they are really decent, im usually a bit wary of going to places I dont know, as some blokes can get a bit err chauvinistic when your a girly (well female lol) but usually if they are bikers then they are pretty much ok. But they were really friendly and helpful.

Its helped with the levers, have been out today and wrists are perfectly ok. Should of known really as I adjusted the ones on my old bike when I got that - but it was 2 years ago.. Suppose its one of those really obvious things that you overlook.

Just need to try slacken the clutch lever know as its still a bit hard on my wrist as I have a tight flexor tendon which affects how I grasp it. So hand can get quite painful on long (250+miles) journeys. MInd you it started aching a tad today and only did about 160ish miles.. :)

What bikes have you both got? Nice to see a few bikers on here by the way 8-)

Perhaps "Burley Bikers" should have a motorised section, as well as the pedallers? Email events@burley-in-wharfedale.org if interested. Put "motorbikes" in the subject line, your contact details in the body of the email.

Well I have a 1996 Daytona 955i in Yellow, it sticks out quite a bit so you may see me around the village. I use it to commute to Harrogate were I work, and fun. I'd be up for a Burley Bikers Group if enough people were interested. always nice to meet new people with an interest in bikes.

I was a member of the IAM but it may be me but I found them a bit stuffy. I'm all for road safety and all that but they were a bit OTT for me with Sam brown Belts etc etc.

Anyway happy t send my details to the email address weirdmusic mentions and see what happens!

ahh yellow is a good colour! I have a yellow curvy SV650.. Will look out for you. See a few bikes around but never know if just passing or from the area. Not seen you yet, as would of noticed your bike.

Cannot have too many friends with bikes, I have friends from all over, usually see someone I know on my travels.

Yellow bikes look great, but blue bikes go faster.... :)

(NB: But also respect speed limits at all times).

Of Course - I never go above 69mph! Yellow ones stand out better so blind drivers can hopefully actually see you - except those who have no idea what there side mirrors are for..

I will be having a bimble up to squires Friday (today) around teatime (6pm ish) if anyone fancies joining me? Meeting a few others, will steady ride as will have the small person aboard, will be home around 10pm.

You can PM if fancy a nice evening ride out.

Hi Bakerbabe,

Would love to join you on a ride to Sherburn this evening but been invited to the Cricket Club to watch a certain football game! Not really into footie though and to be honest the roads should be nice an quiet sop very tempted.

I also have a small person who joins me on rides so a steady ride would have been great.

I sometimes go midweek to Sherburn so next time I go I'll let you know - though I tend to avoid Wednesdays in the summer, just too busy.

BTW don't know if you are into racing but went to Northalleton on Wednesday to meet Colin Edwards, Ian Hutchinson and Jonathan Rea amonst others at a North Yorkshire Road Racing Supporters Club meeting. It was brilliant as Colin got drunk on Newcastle Brown and was quite forthright on his views of the MotoGP paddock

Anyway have a safe ride and I'll catch you another time.

Biker King - didn't go to that but a few mates went up and said it was a good 'do'. I avoid Squires on a Weds too, hate it when its too busy - glad its just not me that cant stand it when its heaving, try to avoid Sundays too, unless a few of us are going for a ride out and thats a central meeting point - but then we meet up and then set straight off.

Forgot to actually check here before I left, so good job nobody was available - oops!
And I don't follow football so have no idea who are playing when etc..

Im guessing I saw someone on here tonight as I went thru the village just past the co-op, I got a nod from someone in a car - if it was you HELLO! I had the small person on the back.

Biker King if you want a ride out thru the week and you have small person with you, let me know, im always up for a ride out somewhere. Goes for others on here too if you fancy a ride out sometime..

Well I think after watch the England match last night I should have gone on that ride out - I now understand why I don't watch much footballPosted Image

Sorry didn't see you last night, so it wasn't me who waved! I am looking out for a yellow SV650 now!

I'm off to Glastonbury next week, but when I get back I'll give you a shout for a ride. My daughter is 11 so not that little but loves to go for a ride (so long as it's not too far!)

Picture of 955i attached!

Cheers
