It was interesting to read Letters to the Editor in this weeks Ilkley Gazette.

Aside from the canine effluent one thing which is becoming more and more apparent on Ilkley Moor are dogs of all descriptions chasing sheep. Especially on the lower slopes where those being chased often charge across Wells Road, Cow Pasture Road, Hangingstone Road and Moor Road.

The affore mentioned have enough dangers without panic stricken sheep adding to them.

I jsut don't understand how certain owners of dogs feel it their god given right to let them loose wherever they wish. If the farmers let their sheep wander into the dog owners gardens they would be the ones screaming.

I wonder how many remember the two pedigree dogs who lost their lives to the gun because their owner was too arogant to heed what the farmer asked of them?

I think you have the answer there. One shot dog would soon stop it. After all it's the famers right to shoot dogs worrying sheep, though in the close proximity of others enjoying the moor it may be a little too much for the Health and Safety policePosted Image

The only problem wth the shooting is Ilkley Moor is also an Urban Common unlike a farmer's fields. But something has to be done and done soon 'cos there's going to be one massive accident on one or the other of those roads mentioned above. It's no use certain dog owners crying crocodile tears. The have a responsibility to their animals, the people using the moors and most importantly those who use moorland for grazing.
