I hope you weren't trespassing on private land.

I did indeed stray from the trodden path, but nobody asked me to leave, too early in the morning for that.

Why is it OK for you to trespass & nobody else? Why didn't you seek permission for what you wanted to do? The landowner may well have given permission plus helped you in your quest.

The next time I'm in your neck of the woods you won't mind if I tramp across your land. I'll even ask all my friends to join me. We'll bring a barbecue & loads of tinnies, dig up a few flowers and generally trash the place. I know you won't object.

Or was there some industrial activity on the Askwith bank in olden times?

Are the any references in old books to this part of Burley? If not any speculations on the purpose of this wall and the ditch?

I have seen in old pictures of the weir in days gone by either on this forum or the Ilkla_more forum where it was mentioned about a building on the northern side of the weir,it slips the old noddle of mine at the moment but if I do recall anything about it I will let you know.

There are axe heads down there? That sounds fascinating! Do you know what period they are from?

weirdomusic - It looks as if you have caused a very respected member (nabbers) to leave the forum.

Is it fair to upset fellow members with suggestions of trespass. We are people who are walking and enjoy the delightful scenery in Burley.

This forum only survives if people have different viewpoints, interests and opinions. It is here for constructive debate and shared appreciation.

Would you have treated him the same if he was a lady cyclist ?

Nay lad tha can't leave now!

What's Sebastian to do with all his pics of Greenholme and the like.

Besides one can't say we are losing an empty vessel when it's clear
the barrel is far from empty.

Re the lady biker, think a lady horse rider come too.

Constructive debate is something very lacking in this high speed world.

Come back pleeeeeeeeeeeeese! :-|

I'm genuinely sorry that nabbers feels that they should leave the forum because of what I posted. I enjoyed nabbers input as much as anyone.

As he/she admitted themselves, they know the land is private, there are no public rights of way where they were walking & they didn't have permission to be there. That no one asked them to leave, doesn't excuse that fact. So they were indeed trespassing. I'm sorry if pointing this out is embarrassing or upsetting to you or anyone else.

The reason I picked up on he/she "wandering on the other side of the river" was the number of recent topics & the large numbers of posts of late with regard to access to land (Stepping Stones / Burley Bridge), to paths (Iron Row), to moors (Burley Festival Fell Race), designated routes (Cycling / MTBs) etc.
I believed I had a valid point to make. Nabbers clearly disagreed. I'm sorry that the interest in this forum, for nabbers, ended on me making my point.

I wasn't aware of the persons gender, but even if I had been, it wouldn't & doesn't make any difference.
How do you know that he/she isn't a lady cyclist? I don't.

I note on a forum up river a certain evening star is pleading with nabbers to return down river.
Perhaps he will bow to their pleas and return.

Is there anyone there - if so etc.,!
