Another few days lost revenue for many of our local traders in an already difficult time.

One wonders if next year it could be planned different - like no stalls on the north side of The Grove for a start.

A chance for our traders to join the throng or,
to keep it totally Continental.

What say you folks.............

After finding it so disappointing last year I didn't go this time. Why disappointing? Because so few of the stalls actually were continental traders. It was not much different to any market. It all seems like a pointless gimmick to me and a means for disreputable traders to use the continental banner to shift their tat. There were some good plants and cheeses though last year!

I fully agree about the pointless gimmik. Once every five or six years perhaps, but not every year. Spoke to one local trader, who wished to remain annonymous, they had taken just FIVE POUNDS on Saturday, 5 against approx 1.5K on a normal day.

Was tempted to go a few years ago, so went to the so called Cosmopolitan market, saw very little that was different to what you can find in our own super shops except the far dearer inflated prices for showing it on open air stalls, never been tempted again.

This is what puzzles me.

Folk flock to this so called market yet mention a real market,
a Farmers Market and Ilkley Parish Council tremble at the thought
so much we have a near earthquake on our hands. The town has a
Royal Market Charter from 1220 something. It's time to use it
again.

But back to the one in hand. Why does it have to be on The Grove?
Why not use the Riverside Park or land on the other side of the river?
Then out traders would not have their doorways blocked by folk not
interested in supporting the town.
