I would like to say a fond farewell to Burley Chinese takeaway. Hopefully the new occupant will add to the diverse mix of shops in the village.

Indian takeaway/ restaurant = 4
Pizza takeaway = 2

I must say, I am not too impressed with the sign. It does look a bit tacky and not in keeping with the rest of the village signs, which are a lot more refined and less glaring.

Yeah can't see what another pizza takeaway is going to add to the village

There are rules on this sort of thing in a conservation area, their sign really is awful. Not a good way to introduce a new business, a great shame. Hopefully it is tempoary, but a permanent sign along the same lines would also be unacceptable. Some takeaways do seem to think they are exempt from rules that other businesses comply with, but this is not the case; I will refer it to planning if need be but will try to speak to them about it first.

On the plus side, whilst I don't feel an urgent need for yet another pizza place, I have to say I won't miss the chinese - they did well to stay open so long!

It is particularly a let down given the excellent shop window a few doors down at the new cake shop.

Isn't that pizza takeaway = 3? I'm sure someone said spicy ranch was doing pizza's these days.

Hi Matt

I just walked past the shop front. The creases in the paper sign above the shop (behind the clear persepex) reminds me of a market stall. It does not look particularly nice or in keeping with the rest of the shop fronts in the village.

I have lost track of ownership of Spicy Ranch and Four seasons. I did hear they were owned by the same people, but that may have changed recently. I think Spicy Ranch do provide grease on a round pastry, which could constitute pizza.

I would have thought the new pizza 1 one (or pizza 11) would have put up a small sign announcing "opening soon" or "open on ??/??/2010" so as to let us know when he is actually open.

I hadn't even realised the chinese shop had closed until the other night when I walked down for a chinese - really fancied one and thought the walk would do me good rather than get in the car to go to the one in Ilkley where I normally go to..
Must admit though, they were not the best chinese I have had.. Why did they shut down? Lack of custom? Or something else?

So we have yet another pizza shop! 3 in such a small village?? wonder how long it will stay open for? Ive not seen the sign they have up - might have a wander past later to have a look.

Have to agree about the cake shop - wow what beautiful cakes they have on display!!
I'm actually quite pleasant............ until I'm awake.

Does anyone know if this shop is open yet ? The sign is so poor taste, i figure the food cant be as bad.

The fact it does burgers is not a hopeful sign. What next, Kebabs. I am glad i dont live nearby - I look at the poor residents near Spicy Ranch. They appear to have half the kids in the village hanging around at night and half the menu thrown in the garden the following morning.

Hope its not going to end up like that on main street - I must find out if its called Pizza eleven ?

Well who knows until someone tries one and reports back? The shop might sell the nicest pizza in the world. I order in from Otley and get them delivered, because I don't rate the existing Burley offerings.

The Spicey Ranch do a mean donner kebab and their curry is pretty authentic. I don't rate the other Curry places at all, their efforts are too bland for my palate.

I'd like to see a proper newsagent in the village again, there used to be 3.

I believe the shop may now be open and I am sure we would all wish them success, and hopefully their pizza’s will be fabulous, because I really don’t care for the offerings from the other local pizza places.

I agree that the signage is out of place and fingers crossed that this can be addressed.

Anyone tried a pizza from there?

Yeap shop opened yesterday, or it was when I went passed. Not tried it yet as ironically I went to Guiseley for a Chinese! There looked to have been quite a few changes inside with lots of pizza making ovens etc..

In answer to Bikerbabe - the old owner of the Chinese has a stroke and unfortunately never fully recovered hence it shutting down which is sad for him and his family.

Be interested to get a report on the first pizza tasting. Though I agree 3 is a bit top heavy in the village but they might be very tasty!Posted Image

If its a good Italian style pizza then it will stand alone in the village as the other ‘pizza’ vendors cant really be described as Italian pizza, anymore than cheese on toast can. I quite like Dominos, but I have found the overall quality to vary too much and it’s become something of a gamble lately, and although they can be tasty, I wouldn’t class them as good Italian pizza.

I will no doubt pop in for a pizza at some point soon, so fingers crossed!

Just tried them. Sadly, I think it's fair to say that Salvos don't have much to worry about. Such a shame.

The best place for Itallian meals locally is Pizza Express. Yes I know it is a chain but quality is good and consistent.

Worrying trend.

Walked past this place on Sunday evening. 2 young adults hanging around snooty & cooty examining how the locked front door worked. I was amazed 2 alds were that interested in hair products.

Walked past again on Monday evening and noticed the pizza boxes thrown outside the buchers.

I know Pizza eleven cant help it, but its not nice

We tried it the other weekend, we didn't think they were that bad, decent sized chicken pieces etc which could be identified easily, not like the usual tiny bits of meat lightly sprinkled on.

I will be getting pizza from there from now on, rather than the other 2 pizza places. Not tried pizza express - do they deliver?

I tried a pizza the other week. I have to say, i was expecting a lot more. Its no different to the other cheese merchants in the village.:

Topping was original - nice big pieces

Cheese was too much, congealed into a block. It made the overall texture too rubbery.

The base was soggy.

I suspect that they prepare the basics on the base and leave them ready to go through the oven as an order comes in. Net result - soggy base.

Sorry, tried it once. Wont be going back. Getting one from the supermarket is probably better, unless you want a quick toasted cheese sandwich.

3/10

It surprises me there has never been a Steaming Pudding Emporium given you've a Pudding Tree and the history that goes with it.
