Interesting letter in this weeks Ilkley Gazette. See http://www.ilkleygaz..._on_switchover/

If this is right our valley is to be shortchanged again when we are forced to be TV digital and instead of the multitude of choices that virtually everyone else gets, we get 8. I say "Again" because we still cant get Chanel 5!

Anyone know if this is true or what we can do about it if it is?

Agree completely. Sadly however, the licence fee is for ownership of equipment that can receive TV regardless of the number or quality of what's available.

In Burley Sky is the only real option until/if cable arrives.

I'd like to know where the correspondent gets his information from about us only getting "8 channels" after digital switchover?  Or that the Wharfedale relay transmitter is not being upgraded?

When I keyed-in my postcode & house number into: http://www.digitaluk...ostcodechecker/
The page "Postcode checker results" comes up

Scroll down to "Standard definition options for going digital at your address"
Under "Reception & Channels"
Click on "Find Out More" then
Click on "Channels available at your address"
Its predicted I will get 18 TV channels (including Channel 5) & 8 radio channels.

The whole of the Emley Moor Transmitter Group (of which Wharfedale relay transmitter is a part) is being upgraded for digital switchover.

Further details  can be found here: http://www.digitaluk...hire/emley_moor

If people are having issues with their TV / Radio reception as of now go to:

Yes, good point, and I understand that many freesat boxes now include BBC iPlayer which is quite cool.

Free this, free that, and lord knows what else will not bother Seb.
I'll just switch to short wave and/or transworld stations on my faithful

I often hear people discussing digital TV and it is clear there is still confusion amongst some as to the implications, what they need to do etc. I have pulled together a few facts in an attempt to explain without getting into too much of the technicalities what is involved. I have put this information on a spare page of the Save Our Stones website. See here

I hope this is of some help.

I showed that to her indoors who has been worrying about the switch over she is delighted to see it in simple such terms.

Glad you found it useful. Please pass on the existence of this SOS page to anyone who has uncertainties about digital TV in Burley.

For anyone who wants to print off the information I have created a PDF version at the bottom of the page - and corrected some unforgivable/grammar spelling mistakes!
