I would like to say as a "first time poster" how disgusted i am that Bradford council have approved planning on the Sub Station site on West View Road. I have lived here 40 years+ and live opposite the proposed new build. We know that Burley Parish Council had said no to it on good ground. There has been opposition to it from day one due to the fact that our road already resembles a car park. On an evening if you drive up when all residents are home it is a nightmare. Plus in the sub station there are Bats living there.....they are protected are they not? The outline planning that the gentleman submitted was flawed on the basis of the size of dwelling for 2 houses plus drives to accomodate 4 cars.....Mr Palmer, whilst i understand you cannot stop this could you at least look into it on behalf of the residents?

I think you should pursue the the Bats theme which is your strongest point as BMDC do have to listen to species protection societies.

Are the bats there all the time? I know in some cases buildings works have been put on hold until the bats have left.. But must say I presumed that once bats made a home they generally stayed there?
ohh love the name by the way!

I am under the same assumpion as you in that once bats have made a home somewhere then thats where they stay. As yet this year i cant say that i have seen them but as a rule its when the weather is warmer and the days longer that we notice them, most probably due to the fact we spend more time out in the garden ( gererally ducking to avoid them!) A friend of mine runs an animal charity so i am going to contact him for some advice/info

You're right I'm afraid, I cannot stop it. I do not like 'back garden' developments of any kind as over time they change the character of the village, but planning rules favour the developer. As a result, I have to be quite focussed when I look at such applications and try to comment in a way that will be listened to - i.e. based on planning law rather than just my personal preference. In this case, it's hard to see how the development could have been stopped.
It's a shame the application has already been granted - had I known about the bats we could have asked for a survey at least. The developer may still have some obligations to them, but stopping a development after it has gone through is very hard indeed - though it is certainly worth making sure the council is aware of the bats.
The main problem here though is planning law, which should be changed to protect villages like ours better.
I'd appeal please to residents concerned about developments to contact both myself and the parish council as soon as you have concerns about an application, so there is still time to do something about it if we can.
