I never realised that this small Plant will generate 14,000 MWh of electricity each year – enough to power approximately 3,200 homes

Having watched the construction work with great interest, I really wonder how soon the plant will be online and what difference it will make to the stones, the river walk, the environment, etc.

I found the following info (including a few pictures):

http://www.co2sense....ley%20Hydro.pdf

http://www.powerfrom...y-in-wharfedale

Wouldnt it be great if the community could have a chance to tour this new facility. I am actually wondering if there is a benefit to switching supplier to co2sense to show my support for this green technology.

Wasnt it a missed opportunity not to involve the local community (schools, etc) right from the start.

The figures for annual generation/number of homes given in the .pdf link appear to be overestimated by a factor of 10.

I believe plans are been put in place for the public to have a look round the structure when it is finally up and running.

Once again this forum brings me news which seems to be common knowledge to others. The recent post noting the goit is full apart, this is the first mention I have seen anywhere of this most interesting project, which seems truly worthwhile. Surely there has been debate on it as it has progressed?

similarly, I have posted over the past couple of years wonderments regarding the duck race, and in recent days the post on cold calling has appeared, again a topic I was totally unaware of.

It worries me that I don't get to hear what is going on like this. My own situation apart, which is not ideal, what am I missing. The only paper I see, the strangely named Wharfe Times, covers Horsforth and Guiseley and is thus totally useless for local topics. The Parish newsletter is improved, but again cannot be comprehensive once a quarter. To me Burley is very much a closed society, but where should I have been looking for news of such things as the hydro scheme, etc. Doubtless there is much going on that will be revealed on this forum after the event!!

As one from up river it was this excellant medium which brought my attention to the hydro electric project. Though I do understand there used to be a small hydro generator somewhere along the Nessfield Road which supplied parts of Ilkley.

I find this forum an excellent source of news.

As for Burley hydro, I walk down by the river a lot, as its really peacefull and pleasant. I became aware of the hydro when building works started.

For an update It's worth a look at the latest Parish Council minutes ...... you can find them on the Burley Website!

The Hydro Electric Scheme on the River Wharfe willl be formally opened by Philip Davies MP on Saturday 20th August with an opportunity for residents to tour the site, as a Burley Summer Festival event.

Not perfect but the Ilkley Gazette is worth getting. It does have local news and patronage will help keep a local newspaper going.

Now it is The Gazette once again it's worth buying.

Property - this week.

Interesting cottage (tounge very much in cheek) for sale up Moor Lane.
Last time I was inside over thirty years ago it was a total tip, so it's
price tag is worth it I would say.

Is safety an issue? No different to the river in that there will be an expanse of water with depth and current, but judging by the specification that Burley Bridge association are having to work to, modern standards assume safety fencing. Obviously there is some new fencing at the new outfall end.

The Goit has been there with a hedge barrier on one side only for donkey's years & both sides are on private land & have never been seen as a hazard to the public.
