B%& Scrap Men! - Or Should That Be Thieving G**s!

1. Do they always leave the area they have been in a disgusting rubbish tip
2. As they are not on proper campsites what do they do about toilets.
3. How can they persuade people of their honesty when they leave things behind such as the red gas bottles which as far as I know are not free and have a deposit on them. Honest people who use gas bottles take them back to the Calor gas supplier and exchange them. The only conclusion when they are left behind is that they are nicked.
4. Close to home how come the people who camp on the old road into Otley never get moved on? I bet if I parked on the road/layby/verge anywhere with a motorhome/caravan/tent even overnight some PC would take great delight at waking me up in the early hours of the morning and making me move on.

Quote me from any sections of the above posts that anyone,
apart from you,
has mentioned the travelling communities.
An apology to all would be welcome
I agree with the above post..
I Have no idea where they idea of these people being travellers have come from - greenhowleadman, if you re-read what I wrote you will see that I DONT think that this was the case! I am not presuming these guys are gypsies, in fact I don't think that they are
And the title I believe is Scrap Men - NOT Travellers/gypsies or whatever you want to call them.. They were men collecting 'scrap' (the term is used loosely here - as my BBQ was not scrap!)

I can't comment on those at Otley - and this will have to be off post for an answer - however there are places in this valley where not a traveller has set foot yet residents tip at will. That includes gas bottles and other waste. I have photographic evidence of to back me up. BMDC are aware of these areas.

Just as interesting was the theft of a bronze bust of Carnegie from Ilkley Library some years ago.
Never to be seen again. They, whoever they were, weren't interested in another of Robert Collyer.
How the thief(s) managed to get it from under the watch of the Librarians has often been a puzzle.

The Ogdens
Now quite top drawer
are related to tinkers
who made a great fortune
trading in demolition materials
scrap
and other tat.
But they are now well respected?
That was just an aside!
Of course, if it wasn't for the scrap metal dealers
also once removed from those on the front line
then the knicking of cast iron manhole covers
and biker babe's ironing board
would not be a viable venture.
The fact is, common sense dictates
that when some manhole covers are weighed in
then alarm bells should ring
but as always
greed succeeds.
Arrest some of the fat cats for handling stolen property!!!
and instead of labeling minorities
lets call a thief a thief

They would have clearly taken these if they hadn't been spotted.

ermm as the OP of this thread - try reading what I have ACTUALLY written!! I think I did exactly as you have said in the quote
And personally have no idea who the Ogdens are so couldn't care less who they are or where they are from.. Unless they're the ones who nicked my BBQ

but be advised
and be vigilant.
Gold has nearly reached the value of $2000 an ounce.
and scrap steel £160 a ton.
There are those among us
as I speak
who have an eye on your garden gate
on your boot scraper
the frame from your gazebo that lost it's fabric in the gales
and that old filing cabinet
that you have been using as an ashtray.

Yes. I would consider it highly likely. They had already opened our gate and walked around our garden. I find it hard to believe that they would have come round to our front door to ask our permission.
