Following on from another thread, the suggestions of youth activities in terms of DJ workshops (and similar / related) is something which got my interest.

I've lived in Burley for around 10 years, but before that I lived in the Hyde Park area of Leeds 6. I got involved with similar projects there and might be interested helping out with something in or around Burley if there's interest.

I've been a semi-pro dance DJ for 20 years or so, although am now winding down that side of things in favour of music production and working with a band or two.

Helping out with say: DJ workshops, music production workshops and sound engineering stuff is something I could get involved with fairly easily, but probably wouldn't be able to carry it on my own.

Anyone else got thoughts on the subject?

Sounds like a good idea to me - the thing to do would be to get some idea of the costs involved, and the number of people who might be interested in taking part.
There are a number of organisations that may be interested in support this kind of activity, the Parish Council ( who organise the Summer Festival) and Burley in Wharfedale Community Trust , for example.

I think the first hurdle would be a critical mass of interested volunteers.

Like I say - I'd be very much interested in getting involved, but don't really have the time to carry this myself. Being married with kids, having a hectic day job plus my various musical activities mean my time is spread thinly at the minute.

If I/we get interest via this forum, then great! If not, I'll see which organisations etc. I can talk to.

:)

what are you trying to organise?
a workshop for kids? or a music workshop in general?

I'm not currently trying to organise anything. ;o)

Am gauging interest (organisers and potential attendees) and generally brain-storming ideas.

I have a set of skills which might be useful (as per my opening comment), but I don't have the bandwidth to organise anything on my own at the minute.

This is a spin-off from another thread where DJ workshops and similar were suggested.

Have you thought of trying a test event as part of Burley Summer Festival 2012?

I haven't. To be honest, I've suddenly become very busy on the gigging side of things so haven't really had time to think about this one.

I'll give it some thought.
