I received an email asking for help regarding Tesco and the The Malt.

They were worried as to what use the chain would put the building.

I suggest all who are interested contact Bradford MDC's Listed Building Unit 01274 432 455 and find if the building is listed and it's repective file number(s).

Facts speak louder than fiction.

I would also suggest before any work eventually does take place you photograph as much of the building as possible.

Even the things many forget like drain pipes, drain covers, under the eves, everything. If anyone has pics of the inside collate them all into a file or online blog. What you can't save in stone you can in memories.

Erm, so where did the information come from that Tesco bought the Malt? Am I missing something? I only saw this in another thread: "Just to inform all of you that tesco won the bid for the malt!!!! ". I didn't know there was an auction (I just thought it was for sale). And who's sending emails asking for help?

Sorry, I'm lost.....

Thank you.

Have you anything further to add as Steve B is obviously interested.

I have made some enquiries but my usual contact is on holiday so know

little at the moment.

Re folk asking for help - you asking that obviously to me anyway makes me think there may be more afoot than folk realise - as to who asked that is between me and them.

All i can tell you at this moment is the gentleman that wanted the malt was very upset, as he was out bid by tesco. I feel i should not speculate as this would then become a further discussion full of wrong information and everyone will start rumours. What i will say is ...it is a grade 2 building so in theory ,the front of the building can not be changed!! Maybe a head quarters comes to mind, although...... what will be... will be as they are one of the top 5 retailers.

I fully understand where you are coming from on speculation etc. The village has enough of that already. However I would caution everyone not to forget about it totaly. It is part of your heritage and needs to be recorded. I nearly missed out some years back when the extension to Ilkley Playhouse got underway. Fortunately a resident alerted me and I was able to go down with cameras to photograph the area before it was built over.

The same goes for The Malt before anything does or does not take place. Eitherway you'll have it in the can.

It was most unfortunate for the gentleman to be out bidded and I shall leave that there.

well it would be sad to have that buiding change in any way,it is a beautiful arcitecture. It looks grand coming into Burley.Very aristocratic. Burley house the same. My mind tends to wonder where it shouldnt, as the latest news on the new tesco ,that is in the process of been built in Ilkley . Came to a holt awhile back due to finding a well whilst digging! I just hope my judgement is correct and it becomes a head quarters. What else can be done to a grade 2 listed building?? May i ask what your presupposition is? That is all i can ask as we have no evidence or recognition of any solid facts yet.

Have just had a look at www.ilkley-more.com there's some interesting posts about the Co-op, Malt and other associated buildings. Perhaps you would have a look too.

I entirely agree, also they make nasty comments about spelling & grammar.

So do I but there's times when they let drop things without realising they are doing it.
