Wandering down Leather Bank and Great Pasture Lane, they both have white lines and cats eyes down the middle for the first 100 yards or so. I assumed they were joined before the bypass was constructed, but I can't work out why, as as far as I was aware the main road was through the village. Can anyone shed any light?

Leatherbank starts at the last house before the Pioneer Pub & also is the bridle path to the stepping stones &goes under the by-pass & to my knowledge has never had cats eyes, also in my lifetime (& thats a long time)Leatherbank has never been linked to Great Pasture except by private farm tracks, although we were never stopped from walking alongside the private track alongside the goit.

One was recently constructed,
The other recently diverted
and adopted
The cats eyes stop
where new meets old
public meets private.

Why was Leatherbank named so?

These are recent additions
built when Burley was
by passed.

The sections of
roads to which you refer
were formerly
parts of fields
connected by
fields.

If you can pull up
aerial shots
pre '91
you will get the picture.

Just put three pics of Leather Bank on the Gallery.
Can't help with Green Pasture though.

For all things "Roads" go to Sabre Wiki

"Sabre" stands for "Society for All British and Irish Road Enthusiasts".
......... we are interested in the history, geography and structure of the British road network.

Under the Sabre umbrella sits a really great site - i.e. its very addictive, you can waste loads of time on it!!
Pathetic Motorways

One that I found highly amusing in a really scary way -
A6144(M) Carrington Spur
One of the few single carriageway motorways in the UK!! Read the history of it, then the comments that follow.
