Generous Pie And Ear

Strolled down to the GP last Sunday for a swift bottle of red and a jumbo steak to find the place closed... no signs saying it was closed, and the door was open, but inside were men, painting and the like, and the roadside signs have changed.
So, it's a Sizzling Pub owned by Mitchells and Butler... looks a very similar style on the M+B web site to before, and it still welcomes kids, bah humbug.
But at least it's not closed totally, probably re-opened by now. Hardly the social centre of Wharfedale, and maybe the new Wetherspoons in Ilkley is better for those who like that sort of thing.

Re-branding! What prey do they mean by such. It's a pub isn't it? Or will the good folk of Burley get a hybrid like the the Craven Heiffer or possible another in a similar vein, The Brown Cow and Dragon My link I used to live not far from here and the old Brown Cow, had it been one, would surely have gone to the fellmongers. The new name conjures up some interesting thoughts.

To be fair - it was never really a pub anyway, more of a place for families to eat.. They did have an area set aside for adults only for a while - but you couldn't eat in that bit just drink, so if you weren't with your kids you still had to put up with other peoples screaming bratlings..
So its still an eating place - just more meat on the menu now it seems..

So in a way it's taken the place of the Wharfedale Gate. At least it brings folk into the village and there's somewhere as you say for all the family to go. But orange! Is it designed like that so one doesn't stay too long? Have yet to try their cuisine..

The food is ummm, distinctly average.. Its what you would expect from a big pub chain selling food.. Its not awful but its nothing to write home about either.. It is just somewhere fairly cheap to go eat with the family. But not if anyone in the party is a vegetarian, unless they eat fish (there are then only about 2-3 dishes to chose from)

That I do know being a local imbiber during it's last few days. But do see the fun side of sitting in someone's front room. They'll probably be better cooks too.

I'm vegetarian as it goes and had at least 3 main options, which is better than most pubs where it's the single option of veggie lasagne.
I thought the food was OK for pub grub at that kind of price.
Ah for the days when the Red Lion had a good veggie choice...

Thanks for the info. I know quite a few folk who are vegetarian and so few places are still short on veggie friendly menus.

Ah! Hopes dashed again. Have these people no idea? Even the likes of The Box Tree understand there's more to veggy food than a bowl of lentils and a bean burger..

Its a shame as we have been to a few pubs and the options are usually pretty good nowadays.

Looks like letters to the Management and Share Holders be required. Perhaps Yorkshire Tourist Board too. I'll try and fit them in somewhere.
