A hive of activity this morning in Burley as the Christmas lights were being set up. I don't like to critisise the volunteers, as they do a fantastic job getting everything up and running, expecially as I'm not currently in a position to help. However I was very concerned at the lack of health and safety this morning. Unsupported ladders propped up on wedges, and a tall scaffold tower with no supporting legs leaning over the roundabout on the pavement, and being held in place by one person. It wouldn't have taken much for a nasty accident to occurr, especially if a car was passing.

Worry not, you're being far too sensitive, they were enjoying themselves. The Elfs of Safety always turn a blind eye to those who risk life and limb for the good of their communities. Can we take it Burley will light the heavens in the usual manner. Just think you could be paying thousands like folk up river and not get half the enjoyment. Ah, those were the days when the Majestic Electric Turkey abided in Canker Well Garden. Now they have a dismal descendant flickering half heartedly in hope someone will give it a powerful shock to brighten the scene. The Origin of that Species certainly knew how to bring a sparkle to the end of The Grove.

Neigh don't scarper join in that's what so fun about it all. Us up stream don't get a look in. Them over t'ill as one so neatly put's it descend with their cherry pickers where no cherries grow and often leave with posts wishing they had lights while others have too many. Then there's the strange blue creature that sometimes haunts Mill Ghyll or Spence Gardens. No one is quite sure where it came from nor why it settles in trees up stream over the festive season.
