Now the dark nights are back so are increasing piles of dog muck. :-o :-o :-o :-o :-o
Are some of you dog owners really that idle that you can walk away when your dog leaves us such as vile pressie ?????
Just because you can't be seen doesn't mean you don't have to clean it up , no more please , clean up after your dog NOW.

Moor Lane is covered in dog muck. It is absolutely disgusting. I notified the Council today to request a warden patrol. Hopefully the selfish few will be caught and exposed to the community. I and a few others similarly disgusted by this are also keeping a look out and will have no hesitation in challenging and reporting the culprits.
You are disgraceful.

There is also dog muck on Scalebor Park playing field. This is even worse as it should be blatantly obvious that children play there and it is a serious health hazard.

I agree there is a problem. i spoke with the council last year regarding the ginnel between airedale terrace and manse road as there was piles of the stuff and my daughter would go on here scooter down there. The council were very good and came within a day or 2. However as expected it all appeared shortley after and is on going. It is disgusting and if i could catch the people responsible i would collect it all and pile on their doorstep! i guess they assume they arent seen being behind the fences!!

I don't own a dog or wish to defend those that let their dogs deficate all over the place, but having done a bit of dog walking for a friend, I would suggest that the (parish?) council could make a bit of an effort to provide dog waste or even normal waste bins, especially en-route along the public footpaths from the centre of the village towards Sun lane and the nature reserve. There are bins along the footpaths from the fields behind the station through Sandholme drive, and I don't see doggy doings round that way.

There seems to be a growing view that Councils (be it district or parish) are responsible for clearing up everone's mess.

In fact we are all responsible for not making the mess in the first place.

It's free to pick up your dog dirt and take it home in a bag, and for that matter to put litter in the bin rather than in the street. It costs a fortune to pay an army of council workers to pick up the same stuff, and another army of health workers to treat the kids who pick up diseases as a result.

So when you pick it up, you make a profit

Dog dirt is easily picked up on children's shoes, hands etc and rubbed in eyes and mouths. The parasites preadby by it can cause blindness in children or terminate a pregnancy.

Any it ruins everyone's environment, including for the idiot who left it there.

How daft does it have to get? http://news.bbc.co.u...ast/7240651.stm

My suggestion: next time you see someone do this, tell them what you think. I do, and I'm not impressed when they later turn up at a surgery for help with some other problem.

Just thought I would add a comment...I own two dogs and ALWAYS clear up after them, I carry (unused!) poop bags in every bag and pocket, I even pick up other dogs' poop when I see it. On the rare occasions I don't have a bag, I find a large leaf or pull a bit of paper rubbish out of a bin to pick it up with. However, I no longer confront people I see not clearing up after their dogs, as I have received some horrible and upsetting verbal abuse once or twice. I wait till they walk away then clear it up myself. I also pick up other random litter I see when out walking, esp in Grange Park, like drink bottles and chip and sweet wrappers. I love Burley and I want to keep it looking lovely if I can. I'm not after a medal, just wanted to reassure people that there are some people around who care about looking after the village :)

Hi Jill,

Just to say welcome to the forum... for some reason I thought you had posted on the forum before, but it's telling me otherwise!

Matt

PS. The first few posts from new members have to be checked and made visible manually to prevent spam etc, hence the short delay in yours showing up.

That is a problem - the sort of people who don't pick up are likely to be abusive when confronted. Report them instead if you feel uncomfortable.

I live in a dog walking area & outside my house there is a strip of grass verge wirth a streetlamp bearing a dog fouling cleanup siign, do dog walkers clean it up, no or only if they see me looking through the window.

Approach them & ask their names & be a bad neighbour I will not owing mainly to age & infirmity plus I will not be able to afford the expected stone through my double glazing.

Owing to this fouling I have ceased to mow the grass verge whereas I allways kept it trimmed & tidy.

Yes a few as always give the rest a bad name.
We no longer have dogs, but when we did they were walked twice a day and usually down the side of or on the nature reserve.
I always picked up and did so if I saw any at all, however I was down the lane at the side of the reserve last week and was horrified to see all the piles of muck just left there. The fact I no longer clean up in that area was obvious, and although I never had the courage to confront anyone, I would offer a bag if I saw someone without one.
In spain there are holders everywhere with doggy bags in them, but when this idea was suggested for the nature reserve there were worries that they would just be pulled out and strewn around, so then they become a danger to wildlife.
This problem will never go away because the kind of people leave their mess for others are probably brain dead anyway.
