We now can view Freeview television in the digital mode in all it's glory from the Clifton transmitter, but!, limited to about 18 channels which include dating channels ect whereas via other main transmitters there are well over 100.
When are we likely to be enabled with the other channels as there are only abuut 6 which transmits watchable programs or has the limit been reached.
As a being pensioners of limited means we cannot afford to erect an high gain aerial to get full Freeview reception from Emley Moor or Bilsdale & there must be many people in the Wharfe valley who are in the same boat.

I don't have a TV however this to me points once again to communal ariels or dishes similar to the one that serves my abode. For instance each street could/should have a communal unit for the rest to plug into. It would get rid of all those dishes on the sides of houses and enable a wider viewing window for all.
An interesting point to discuss....

The simple answer is we aren't going to get any more . The provision of further channels is a commercial based decision and there aren't enough households served by the transmitter to make it economically viable.

Aerial feeds can be quite lossy, and in order to supply a large group of flats (let alone a street), you'd need to amplify the signal a lot and split off a portion of the signal to each property. Difficult to manage, expensive to install (especially the cost of the copper!) and you'd have the ongoing power running costs. With the switchover to digital, the signal is stronger in Burley, so with a high gain aerial in the loft, you can split the signal to a few TV's without the need for an amplifier, and without having to roof mount. I bought a farily cheap one, and didn't even bother mounting it, it's just sat on top of the loft insulation!
If you need an external aerial I did spot this the other day which looks interesting http://www.screwfix....equestid=118557
BBC Leeds are now using these in their Outside Broadcast vehicles for monitoring TV signals off air, so they can't be bad - a bit neater than the usual.

Thanks for the information. I'll pass that onto other residents. However steam radio is still supreme in my abode.
