The new Parish Council newsletter has just arrived – a much improved effort of late so well done to those who give of time to put it together. It is sad to see some action on the idiotic parking – practices and regulations – on Prospect Road and Rose Bank is being delayed (and for a nonsensical reason), but I’m glad to see the Council asking all “to park with regard to other road and pavement users.”
Trouble is, my regular forays beyond my front door have indicated that as many a four vehicles have been blocking the pavement outside the house of a local councillor almost continuously since before Christmas, indeed a quick check just now showed that two of the four are also parked on a bend, as a double “two fingers” to both common courtesy and the law – and the pain and danger-free perambulations of the visually impaired, wheelchair users, buggy-pushers, etc….. and it’s dark, and this is not 100 yards from Police notices on lamp posts reminding drivers not to do this.
One might think that a councillor would try and set and example, but maybe it’s a case of one law for the….

This reminds me of the time which shows the attitude of some motorists, when Dodshons cornmill in the western end of Courthouse Street in Otley was in existence the entry was only acsessible by reversing your HGV into the doorway from Bridge Street. And once when I had reversed in the doorway & after unloading I found that a car had parked blocking the entry & was halfway across the pavement & I had to wait about an hour untill a rather well spoken lady appeared & when I broached the subject of her parking responce was "Young man!, I own a car to get from A to B & when I reach point B I wil park my car at the nearest point convenient irrespective of any inconvenience it may cause".

Much the same happened to me when moving a load of steaming manure between places of employ. When the offending driver in my case refused to move back a couple of feet to let me out I pulled the trailer hydraulic leaver up. The sight of a couple of ton of steaming muck sliding to the rear soon made them move. I still chuckle at the look on their face......
