From the village website - on the Proposed Local Development Framework
The consultation by Bradford Council runs until 20th January (see the Parish Council pages for details on how to access information and how to contribute your views to Bradford Council).
The Parish Council will be sending a detailed, constructive response and councillors have been compiling their own thoughts and views as well as noting the comments received from local residents. Residents are invited to attend the *meeting on Thursday 12th January (7:30pm, Queen's Hall) to contribute further views and ask questions. The Parish Council’s final response will then be forwarded to Bradford Council.
Bradford Council first consulted on issues around the Core Strategy in 2008. At that time the Parish Council sent a long and detailed response outlining the council’s concerns about the strategy. A number of the concerns expressed in 2008 remain the same and will form the basis for the current response: lack of infrastructure and investment in new infrastructure particularly the transport network, impact on health and education facilities, failure to address the need for new employment opportunities alongside housing development, need to provide affordable housing, importance of preserving wherever possible green belt land.
The Parish Council is also talking to neighbouring communities in relation to Burley’s position as part of the Wharfe Valley and the wider Bradford district.
*The meeting will also include a PACT meeting and the AGM of Burley-in-Wharfedale Community Trust (BWCT).

Good turn out for the meeting – at least 150 people. The meeting was hosted by Sylvia Tilford, Chair of Burley Parish Council.
We were shown a DVD prepared by Bradford Council, with lots of background info. The points I noted were that Burley nominated as local growth centre, ( No explanation on what basis!) and that any development would minimise Greenfield/greenbelt use – Brownfield prioritised, Greenfield only used as a last resort.
Councillor Chris Greaves then spoke – the LDF is a broad brush approach, not focused on specific sites. He suggested that we should ignore the figures provided by Bradford – how much additional development could Burley cope with? We should also look at Wharfedale as a whole, and work together with other Parish Councils on this (this is already happening, they all had a meeting this week). Transport infrastructure is the major issue – the only way out of Wharfedale is by the railway or the A65 & A660 roads, all of which operates to capacity.
Caroline Jones – Chair of Burley Parish Council Planning committee – She co-ordinating the Parish council response. Why is Burley a Local Growth Centre when it doesn’t fit the criteria (very limited employment opportunities etc)? Burley has already absorbed an additional 700 new houses in the past 20 years. Greenholme Mills is to be added to the potential development sites.
Other points raised from the audience – All plans based on Bradford population growth projections, their track record is consistently to produce gross overestimates. It was also commented that a deal had already been done with developers – they would build low cost housing in Bradford in return for access to new development sites in Wharfedale. The Working Party working on the Housing Allocation plans includes representatives from Barratts, David Wilson Homes, Persimmons, and Dacres.
All comments have to be submitted by 4pm on 20th January, preferably electronically.
Anyone else got anything to add?

"The deal has been done". When & why, I thought that was what the meeting was for to probably discuss this as acception or un-approve the whole idea, & how many times have we heard the story of low cost houses which do not transpire.
